Thanh Binh commune (Chuong My district) has just been assessed by the Hanoi City evaluation team as meeting the advanced new rural standards for 2024.

Over the years, thanks to the development of advantages from rural industries, people's incomes have steadily increased. In particular, many farmers in Thanh Binh commune have been focusing on developing products from rattan and bamboo weaving and livestock products under the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program to enhance their economic value.

Despite being nearly 70 years old, Mr. Luu Huu Can (Trung Hoang village) remains passionate about the traditional rattan and bamboo weaving craft. Born and raised in the village, after many years of fighting to defend the country, he returned to his hometown. Although he has a pension and a relatively stable life, Mr. Can is always concerned about how to develop the economy and provide jobs and additional income for others. Undeterred by difficulties and hardships, Mr. Can has contributed to the development of the traditional rattan and bamboo weaving craft in his hometown.

Through the skillful hands of the craftsmen, rattan, bamboo, and other similar materials have been transformed into exquisite products, providing income for the local people. Initially, he only made chairs and trays, but gradually he created hundreds of sophisticated products such as vases, shelves, bags, baskets, and trays, which are used by domestic consumers. In addition, some items have been exported in fairly stable quantities. Currently, Mr. Le Huu Can's family business provides employment for more than 40 local workers.

Having also developed his economy quite early through egg-laying chicken farming, for many years now, Mr. Nguyen Viet Trang (Thanh Ne village) has not had to work far from home but still earns a high income. Mr. Trang shared that Thanh Binh commune has a tradition of large-scale chicken farming. A few years ago, his family invested 1.2 billion VND to build a closed-loop farm with a capacity of 100,000 laying hens. This is an advanced farming model that applies high technology. The chickens are well-cared for, develop well, and lay eggs healthily.

With 100,000 laying hens, Mr. Trang's family collects approximately 9,700 eggs daily. The chickens are raised from chicks until they start laying eggs at six months old and continue laying for 15 months before needing to be replaced. "With such a large egg production and modern farming practices, I have prepared the necessary documents to submit my product for the OCOP product evaluation and classification competition in the near future to obtain certification and build customer trust," Mr. Nguyen Viet Trang stated.

According to Lưu Hữu Quyền, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Bình commune, the people of Thanh Bình have a long tradition of livestock farming. The commune currently has 94 poultry farms and 16 large-scale pig farms that provide services to companies. Furthermore, many households are now collaborating with businesses to purchase eggs for processing and supplying them to collective kitchens. In addition, approximately 1,000 households have members involved in the production and development of rattan and bamboo crafts. Many of the commune's rattan, bamboo, and wicker products have been exported to countries such as South Korea, China, and Japan. Thanks to the development of these industries, Thanh Bình commune has achieved an average per capita income of nearly 80 million VND per year.

Recognizing that the OCOP program is supporting the improvement of agricultural and handicraft products in the commune in terms of design, quality, and market development, Thanh Binh commune has selected two products: rattan chairs and rattan wall shelves from Mr. Luu Huu Can, in Trung Hoang village, to participate in the 2024 OCOP product evaluation and classification. These two products have also been assigned QR codes for product traceability. Additionally, chicken eggs from many households will be supported in participating in the OCOP product evaluation and classification in the near future.

That is also reason to hope that, with the support it provides, the key products of Thanh Binh commune will develop better, helping to increase people's income, creating momentum for the local socio-economic development and promoting the completion of the model new rural construction in the coming years.
